Q: Are you sure it works? Everyone knows you can't macro in EverQuest!
A: EQ Macros is the first program of its kind! And YES IT WORKS! ;)
Q: Can you record & playback mouse clicks, drags, etc?
A: YES! EQ Macros now has mouse support.
Q: Is there a trial version I can download to test it out?
A: Yes, you can download it here.
Q: I don't see any of the windows?!
A: You can't use Glide 3D mode when using EQ Macros. You must switch over to
DirectX mode. Don't worry - EQ will still run just fine. It will just use a
different API to draw to the screen and display 3D.
Q: Why can't I hear the WAV files being played, or even a system beep?
A: If you can't hear the WAV files, it is a sound card issue, and your sound
card doesn't support playback from multiple sources. You could delete or move
the WAV files out of the EQ Macros directory, then EQ Macros will default to
playing the system beep instead. Once again, depending on your sound card you
may or may not hear the system beep.
Q: At the end of recording my macro, I wait a few seconds until I hit stop
recording. Why doesn't EQ Macros include this delay? The old version used to.
A: EQ Macros works slightly differently now. To include a delay at the end of
recording your macro, you need to add some meaningless event. If its a
mouse/keyboard macro, just move the mouse slightly at the end of the delay. For
a keyboard only macro, you may want to hit the "Shift" key at the end
of the delay.
Q: When I record or playback a macro, sometimes the extra keystroke (e.g.
"1") gets passed on to EverQuest. Isn't this a bug?
A: Most likely, you have gotten out of sync. For example, you might've pressed
the record key ("[") and forgot to press a number key. Then the next
key you press will be "eaten" by EQ Macros, and not the one you
expect. Press "]C" (calibrate) until it is back in sync. Then try to
record/playback again, and it should work as expected.
Q: Any special setup required?
A: Yes. EQ Macros currently only supports EQ under 640x480 mode. Also, if you
have a Voodoo3 card (or any Glide-compatible card), you need to switch off Glide
mode and switch to DirectX mode. I plan to support higher resolutions in the
future. You can also switch to higher resolution modes while playing the game,
you just can't use the EQ Macros features at that time.
Q: My mouse macro doesn't move to the right spot, what's wrong?
A: Its best to start recording mouse macros with the mouse in the far upper left
corner of the screen. This is the most reliable way to do it.
Q: I see two mouse cursors on the screen, what's wrong?
A: That's not a bug, that's a feature! ;) That lets you know that your mouse
isn't calibrated for EQM. Just hit "]C" to calibrate your mouse. You
may see some screen "smear" in the Inventory view. It will go away in
a couple of seconds, or you can switch to another view to remove the
"ghost" cursors.
Q: Is using EQ Macros cheating?
A: Verant implicitly allows the use of macros while at your computer (see Gordon
Wrinn's statement).
However, John Smedley recently sent message to
Lum
the Mad that he believes using EQ Macros is cheating. Use
of EQ Macros may violate your license agreement with Verant. Use
EQ Macros at your own risk. It is our belief that EQ Macros is not
cheating, because it does not give the player any unfair advantage, or let the
player do something they can't already do. In online games, there is a
variance in game play based on a user's computer system - high-end PC systems
with an advanced graphics card and high speed Internet connection will perform
better than the average system. These players will see more information
(more pixels), see it at a faster frame rate, and move with less lag due to a
better Internet connection. These variances in game play are known and
accepted by the players, and not considered "cheating". The
advantage EQM may provide is far less than the advantage from using a high end
PC system.
Q: Will I get caught if I use EQ Macros?
A: Not if you're smart about it. ;) Just like anything, you must be careful how
you use it. Do not macro unattended. Don't macro right in the middle of a busy area. Don't macro any kind
of repetitive speech. Toggle your "AFK" status while macroing, etc.
Since each user gets a custom executable, it can only be detected if Verant uses
invasive (and illegal) methods to detect it. Ultimately, you are responsible for
how you use EQ Macros, and you must use EQ Macros at your own
risk. Currently Verant has stated they will only penalize for unattended
macroing - so if you are at the keyboard watching your macros you should be
fine.
Q: Will EQ Macros work for all patched versions of EverQuest that Verant
releases?
A: I will make every effort to make sure EQ Macros works with each patched
version of EverQuest. However, I can't guarantee what happens in the future, so
there is no guarantee that EQ Macros will work forever. EQ Macros is sold
"as-is", and no refund will be given in the event that a patched
version of EverQuest "breaks" EQ Macros.
Q: How come the map & location window
don't automatically update?
A: This feature was "broken" when EQ came out with the DirectX 7
patch. To work around the problem, set up a hotkey for "/loc",
and press that hotkey to update the map and location window. Also, make
sure you have logging turned ON, and that you have EQM pointing to the correct
log file (under the options tab).
